About

Why this blog?

When I decided to give Starcraft another shot I took a look at the scene and the content that got created over the past years. I gladly noticed that Starcraft no ded gaem.

Some of the content I enjoyed the most was:

This blog is primarily for myself to reflect my experience and cope with all the stress that can happen on the ladder. But maybe it can also fill some gaps and offer some kind of immersive experience for other members of the metal leagues who live the casual gamer life and still want to progress in the game.

Starcraft Boomer?

Recently Mackintac mentioned on his stream that he sees players that play since Wings of Liberty as Starcraft Boomers.

  • Generation Z are those who starte playing after F2P
  • Millenials started playing with LotV
  • Generation X started playing with HotS
  • Boomers started when WoL was released

I liked this comparison so much it inspired the name of this blog. Although technically I started playing Starcraft even before Brood War, which would make me a member of the Graetest Generation? But in isolated Starcraft II context Boomer is correct.

Who am I?

I am in my 40s, the dad of 2 awesome kids and my life would not be complete without my wonderful wife.

Some history

My Starcraft journey began on LAN parties with the original Starcraft and later Brood War. I never played these online, but I always enjoyed playing RTS games locally. When Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty was released, noticed that the only way I could play Zerg would be the ladder, so I started playing online. Quickly I became a huge fan of the game and followed the scene for quite a while. I devoured content made by streamers and youtubers and also watched every tournament I could. Others liked to watch Football championships, but I preferred my favorite eSport.

In Wings of Liberty I played my way up to Platinum, but due to a lack of time I never really caught up with the game after Heart of the Swarm or Legacy of the Void. Back then I was also blogging about my journey and on the web archive, there are still some traces of my old progression blog.
